Today I am sharing two units I painted awhile back for the 1864 2nd Schleswig Holstein War. This war was fought over the control of the duchies of Schleswig and Holstein. At the time these were controlled by Denmark, but the Austro-Prussia alliance wanted to bring them under their control. The war started in February of 1864 and concluded less than a year later, with a decisive Austro-Prussian victory.
The first unit is the 18th Regiment of infantry for the Danes. This is the only regiment in the Danish army that wore a shako, the other infantry regiments wore kepis. These figures are from North Star's 1864 range. They are beautiful figures, that have a high level of detail, and paint up really nicely. Size wise, these figures fit well with North Star's 1866 range, which you can for the Prussians and Austrians.
The second unit is a unit of Austrian infantry. These figures are in a great coat, which was worn in 1864 and 1866, so they can do double duty. The figures are Battle Honors figures that are sold by 19th Century Miniatures in the US. I love the Battle Honors range of figures for late 19th century Europe. I have tons of their Austrians, Saxons, and French. They have have great detail and paint up really nicely. They are very similar in size to Foundry's Franco-Prussian war figures, so compared to North Star's figures they are smaller. So you wouldn't want to mix and match in a unit with 1866 Austrians from North Star, but in separate units they look just fine together on the table.
